Mayor James Kinney played host to the Arena Football League World Champions Philadelphia Soul with a Rally at the City Hall Courtyard on Wednesday August 31st. Fans, Players, Coaches, Cheerleaders along with Front office staff and owners celebrated in a shower of confetti, music and high Fives. Mayor Kinney kicked off the rally by stating, “I declare Wednesday, August 31st,2016, “Philadelphia Soul World Champions Day’ in Philadelphia”. The Mayor then presented Ron Jaworski with the official city proclamation.
Co-Owner and Former Eagles great Ron Jaworski then addressed the enthusiastic crowd and basked in the adoration from the fans for delivering on his promise to win multiple Football Championships for Philly (2016 and 2008). “We’ve always said we’re going to win championships and we’ve delivered,” said Ron. “I couldn’t be more prouder of our players and coaches. The team had the Foster Trophy on hand and repeated a similar rally from the 2008 season (2X world Champions in 11 seasons).
Co-Owner and team Co Founder Craig Spencer reminded the audience of all the community activities that the Soul and the JBJ Foundation have done in the City. “ Not only am I proud of what our team has accomplished on the field but feel our organization is a Champion off the field as well. “stated Craig.
Philadelphia native and Co Owner Cosmo DeNicola (so called Rowhouse boys along with Marty Judge and Pete Ciarrocchi (Chickie’s and Pete’s) recognized the fans as the true Champions and reminded everyone that this trophy was for them. Calling out many Philly neighborhoods, surrounding counties and states, Cosmo got the crowd all fired up feeling the love coming right back to them for all their years of loyal support.
Several players including All Arena QB Dan Raudabaugh addressed the crowd and let everyone know how much they appreciated the energy they felt from the fans on the field. Soul DL Jake Metz hurried over from Eagles practice to participate in the festivities.
Everyone hopped back on the team busses heading to Chickies and Petes with an official Police Escort for the Championship Party at Play2.
