## Vroom Vroom! Putting Kids on the Road to Health

A hospital can be a scary place for anyone. that’s why the team at Cosmo Cares decided to donate over 300 motorized and push vehicles to all the children’s hospitals that are members of the Children’s Hospitals Association.

The donated vehicles will provide children on their way to surgery or other medical procedures a positive, playful distraction to help ease the potential stress and anxiety they may experience while in the hospital.

“Reducing stress and bringing smiles to the faces of children and their parents, while in the hospital, gives us great joy,” stated Morgan DeNicola CC Program Director. Chairman Cosmo DeNicola added, “Our partnership with CHA, the National Voice for more than 220 children’s hospitals, ensures a successful mission and focus on the children’s well-being.”

Initial deliveries of the vehicles will commence in October with a final dedication at the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami during Super Bowl week. The program also includes the delivery, assembly and ongoing service to maintain the fleet.

## Cosmo Cares Dedicates Elementary School Student Pantry

The Cosmo Cares team (CC team), compiled of Cosmo DeNicola, Morgan DeNicola and Natalie Scarantino, was onsite for the grand opening of the Clara Barton Elementary School Pantry project in Philadelphia, PA on Thursday September 12. CC had the privilege of establishing the Pantry by donating Snacks, Food, School Supplies and Student Clothing for the benefit of the students (grades K-2) including a washer and dryer for keeping everything fresh.

The School was named after Clara Barton, a former Teacher and Nurse, who was instrumental in the creation of the Red Cross. Keeping with her theme, the program included presentations focused on caring and sharing. In addition, there was an interactive speech that reinforced the Power of Positivity and YES. The students were very enthusiastic during the formal part of the dedication, however, the energy level sky rocketed when the Elmwood Park Zoo brought live reptiles on stage to educate and awe the young students, teachers and administrators.

“I was so proud to see the energy, excitement and thirst for knowledge from the children. They inspire me to keep growing our impact,” stated Morgan DeNicola, CC Program Manager. CC Chairman ,Cosmo DeNicola, gave special thanks to Quincy Harris of Fox 29's the Q show, School Principal Colleen Bowen and Clara Barton Teacher Keesha Jackson for making it all possible.

## Morgan DeNicola Joins Elmwood Park Zoo board

While a love of animals is not a prerequisite for sitting on the board of Elmwood Park Zoo, it sure seems to be a recurring theme among those who do.

Two new board members will be taking their respective seats at the table this month, and we sat down and had a conversation with each of them.

“We’re very excited to have these two new board members joining the Elmwood Park Zoo family,” said Executive Director and CEO Albert Zone. “Their appreciation for what we do here, and their individual skill sets are going to make an immediate impact on the board. We’re very lucky to have them both coming joining us.”

Morgan DeNicola, who lives in south Philly, is the humanitarian program manager for Cosmo DeNicola Companies, (CDC).

CDC is a holding company for a variety of businesses, ranging from technology, heathcare, publishing, professional football, and Hollywood talent management.

“We’ve known Al (Zone) and his family for a few years now,” DeNicola said. “I’ve always loved being around animals. Anything that has to do with animals and conservation is very appealing to me, so when the opportunity came up to serve on the board I didn’t want to pass it up,” DeNicola said.

“I’ve been able to work with an NGO (non-governmental organizations) called The Humpty Dumpty Institute that works with the United Nations. I’ve had the pleasure of accompanying a congressional delegation to Africa. We had a conversation with the Malawi government about the Amitofo Charity Center, an organization run by Buddhist monks that help orphaned children all around Africa.”

The Amitofo Charity Center helps children who have lost both parents and try ensure the children receive an incredible education, security, stability and spiritual guidance. Morgan DeNicola is looking forward to her return to Africa to ensure the delivery of a Mobile Medical Van the Cosmo DeNicola Companies are supplying to the ACC Center, this medical van will not only supply the children of the orphanage with basic medical care but also the remote villages surrounding the Amitofo Charity Center.

“I feel like Elmwood Park Zoo is more about the educating the community and the enrichment of the animals, which is something that I can definitely support and put my motivation and passion behind,” said Morgan.

Jim Cohn, who lives in Plymouth Meeting, is president and owner of Mid-Atlantic Events magazine, which he launched a little more than 30 years ago.

“I’ve been involved with other organizations and when I started looking at what I had done in the past I wanted to change things up,” Cohn began. “When I met Al, he had some visions for the growth of the zoo. I saw a lot of excitement there. I like Al’s energy with the zoo, I thought maybe I’d be able to add to it.

“I look at the zoo as a wild place to throw around ideas,” Cohn continued. “We talked about a Safari Chic event, and I thought, that sounds like a lot of fun. Zoobile was an event where people were dress pretty elaborately, they took over the whole zoo in Philadelphia. There were all kinds of events along the walk way.

“Now the biggest event in Philly is Diner en blanc. They get a lot of press. I thought there’s nothing like that in Montgomery County. Beast of a Feast (Elmwood Park Zoo’s annual fundraiser) is pretty big, but I thought there could be something in addition to it.

“I said to Al one evening, what if you colored some of the areas, one could be in blue, one in red. Someone could say, hey I’m over in red. You could put all of the deserts over in the blue area, and they could use something blue in them. For the zoo, if they’re standing up at the top when they come in, they could see all of the different colored areas.

For Safari Chic, they would wear some safari outfits. I looked at Al that night and he was dressed to the nines. I thought I why weren’t other people.”

Cohn said his love of animals started when he was a young boy. He had dogs growing up, and he has three dogs now, one a feral dog that had been running wild throughout his neighborhood. He said the dog would follow his dogs when they were out walking, but no one could catch her. ‘Bonnie’ was being fed by neighbors, so she was sticking around. One cold winter day Cohn opened the door to let her come in, and after a while, she finally stayed.

“I’d like to see more companies come into the zoo and do more private events. I think that area of the zoo is very attractive. I’d like to be able to help out on that level,” said Cohn. “If a group has an event there they have the extra advantage of being able to walk around the zoo, something they don’t get from a boring hotel ballroom.”

## COSMO DENICOLA TAKES PART IN SUPER BOWL LUNCH AT MINNEAPOLIS RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE WITH FORMER EAGLES OWNER LEONARD TOSE'S GRANDDAUGHTER

**Minneapolis; January 29, 2018:** As the granddaughter of the former Philadelphia Eagles owner and co-founder of the Ronald McDonald House Leonard Tose, Marnie Schneider was raised with a dedication to family, charity, and sports. Tose helped found the Ronald McDonald House in 1974 when Eagles player Fred Hill’s daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, prompting the team to raise money for the hospital and later for a house where children and families could find rest and refuge from the hospital. Now, Schneider is giving back to these communities she calls family through her love letter to football cities, sports fans, and first responders: her *Football Freddie and Fumble the Dog* series. On Feb. 2, Marnie will be sharing her first book in the series at a luncheon for children, patients, and families at the Ronald McDonald House – Oak Street in Minneapolis.

Longtime family friend, humanitarian, entrepreneur and Ronald McDonald House Charities supporter Cosmo DeNicola, who owns a private healthcare, technology, publishing, professional sports, and entertainment holding company called Cosmo DeNicola Companies, will be joining Marnie for this unique event. Cosmo will speak to the guests about being a champion both on and off the field, while Marnie will share her experiences as an author, what inspired her first book in the *Football Freddie and Fumble the Dog* series, and exploring topics such as the connection between sports and family; the Philadelphia Eagles past, present, and future; high school sports programs; and the evolution of the sports world. Marnie’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A, book signing, and some kid-friendly activities, including a chance for guests to try on her grandfather’s NFC Championship ring.

“We are excited to welcome Marnie and Cosmo to the Ronald McDonald House to celebrate professional football in America and the Super Bowl in Minnesota”, said Jill Evenocheck, President & CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest (RMHC-UM). “We are so grateful for the generous donations of books to our school and making a fun event for our families around the big game.”

## TECHNOLOGY GIFTS SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER FOR LOCAL REFUGEE CHILDREN

Cosmo DeNicola Companies took part in spreading holiday cheer on Thursday, when they donated bean bag chairs, blankets and Samsung Tablets to the Romero House, part of the St. Joseph & St. Vincent Homes for children.

St. Vincent homes has been caring for children for over 100 years, and takes pride in caring for and assisting the least, the lost and the last to have hope, to achieve their dreams of a better life. In 1888 Father Eugene McElhone established St. Joseph’s House for Homeless Industrious Boys, often gathering in young boys living on the streets, surviving on the pennies they earned hawking newspapers.

The Blessed Oscar Romero House, which was opened in May 2016, serves youth who have fled their countries of origin due to war, ethnic or religious persecution, human trafficking, and other hardships. Current residents originate from Central America and Central Africa. Among the languages spoken by the residents are Spanish, French, Swahili, and other Congolese dialects.  All of the boys have been granted legal status because they have no families to be returned to, or the situation in their home country is too dangerous for them to be sent back.

“I have been driving by St. Vincent's Home for 40 years, and never really understood what it represented. I am so proud that we took the time to learn and engage with their great work,” stated Cosmo DeNicola.
