Warner Bros has plotted the release date for Alcon Entertainment’s Chicken Soup For The Soul, the Alcon Entertainment movie based on the bestselling inspirational book series. The pic will bow on December 16, 2016, the date staked out so far by only one other film: Disney’s Star Wars stand-alone movie Rogue One.
Alcon acquired film and TV rights to the Chicken Soup property in 2013, tapping Brandon Camp (Love Happens) to write the screenplay. The current draft is from Lewis Colick (Death And Life Of Charlie St. Cloud, October Sky).Alcon has an output deal with Warners.
The movie is going forward now after the pic earlier this month was selected as one of 11 feature films awarded a piece of the expanded $330 million-a-year California Tax Credit Program. No cast or director has been set.
Originally created by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen in 1993, Chicken Soup For The Soul has evolved into a worldwide multi-channel brand run by publisher Amy Newmark and CEO Bill Rouhana. Alcon’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce with The Kerner Entertainment Company’s Jordan Kerner. Ben Haber, Bill Rouhana and Tim Rouhana are exec producing with Kate Moulene set as co-producer.
Kerner and Colick are repped by Paradigm, with Colick also repped by Industry Entertainment.
