On Friday, March 13, The Maxwell Football Club hosted their 78th Annual Maxwell Football Club (MFC) Awards Gala at the Tropicana Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. The event, which recognizes the top athletes, coaches and contributors to the sport of football, was attended by a record 1,200 distinguished guests and was aired on nationally on ESPN3. Amidst the A-List of football celebrity guests and honorees including Heisman trophy winner Marcus Mariota and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, Cosmo DeNicola, entrepreneur and owner of the Philadelphia Soul, was on hand to present his partner Leigh Steinberg with the Maxwell Football Club’s Reds Bagnell Award for lifetime contributions to the game of football.
Throughout his 40-year career, Steinberg has secured over $3 billion in player contracts, representing the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft a record nine times. In addition, he worked as a guiding force in helping athletes give back by serving as positive role models within their communities. Steinberg also paved the way for his clients to establish careers after football, and was one of the first advocates for raising awareness about the long-term dangers of concussions.
Two of the top MFC award recipients included Mariota, who received the the Maxwell Award as the College Football Player of the Year and J.J. Watt, who received the Bert Bell Award as the Professional Player of the Year. Other notable award recipients included Kelly, former Notre Dame head coach and ESPN college football analyst Lou Holtz, Arizona Cardinal’s head coach Bruce Arians, Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen and CBS Sports broadcasters Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson.
