ST. LOUIS - On Saturday afternoon, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher was presented with the Steinberg-DeNicola Humanitarian Award for his work with the Wounded Warrior Project, which honors and empowers injured service members. Jets’ owner Woody Johnson and Dolphins’ general manager Dennis Hickey were also honored for their humanitarian efforts.
Presented at Leigh Steinberg’s 28th Annual Super Bowl Party, Fisher received the inaugural Coach’s Award. In a blog post on Jan. 18, Steinberg wrote he and his partner, Cosmo DeNicola, established the honor “to create an award that recognized the community and charitable service that characterizes the typical lives of people involved with professional football.”
Steinberg also write that Fisher “has given vigorous support to the Wounded Warriors Project. Honoring and providing resources to the courageous soldiers defending our freedom is the least we can do as a society.”
Fisher has a long history of supporting the U.S. armed forces, including visiting troops in the Persian Gulf in 2009, and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa to raise funds and awareness for the aforementioned Wounded Warrior Project.
